Historically, Indiginous Americans used California Poppy for colic, sleeplessness and stomach pains. It is often brewed as a tea to counter excitability, hyperactivity and nervousness. California Poppy promotes long, restful sleep and is often used as a treatment for insomnia. It also has the potential to assist with addiction and withdrawal. Drinking strong tea or smoking the herb as often as needed has been used to help overcome heroin, morphine and opium cravings. It has also been known to aid in interrupting cannabis, alcohol, and tobacco habits. The whole plant is smoked.

Effect Herbs These herbs are smoked for the way they make someone feel or the effect they may otherwise have on them. Effects are anecdotal, or of historical note, not a promise or a cure. Effect herbs can generally be smoked on their own if desired, but we recommend mixing them into a base herb, as the smoke may not be pleasant or hold an ember.
